Evening News

I avoid certain stations at 10pm and opt to keep my 50 cents on weekdays and $1.50 on Sundays,

If what you are reporting is 'news', give me the old- the yesterdays.

Really? Is this what it's come to?

Story after story about violence and red carpet reviews...

No one did anything good today?

Or will happy, uplifting news send your ratings the wrong way.

I don't watch television to become depressed,

And I'd rather not have my pride and hope for my city suppressed.

True, it couldn't be reported if it never happened- that's a different story all together,

We as a neighborhood, community and society have to do better.

People are without jobs so we have alot of umemployed, idle hands and minds,

We are passing illiterate kids to the next grade cause 'no child' can be left behind.

Teachers praying that the child they reprimanded doesn't belong to a disillusioned mother that won't want to fight,

When their child tells them at the end of the day that the teacher made him sit down and be quiet.

Grown men having trouble keeping their hands to themselves,

Creating children that grow into adults with issues and secerets they dare not tell.

Women mothering children that they care nothing about,

While the infertile spend thousands of dollars on procedures and drugs just to have one child.

Young man thinks society owes him something so he takes and takes,

But he never gave anyone anything but pain and heartache.

Patients cutting pills in half to stretch their meds,

Cause a prescription costs as much as their utility and still their kids have to be fed.

And when was the last time a cure was found,

You'll still die from the disease but in the meantime the medication will keep you around.

So tune in tonight for the latest foolishness- no, thank you,

I got an idea- Let's changes the names the fool's paper and the 10 o'clock blues.

Signing off: Elevate, Eliminate, Celebrate
